Summary. Rats are the most commonly used in laboratory research animals, especially in preclinical studies. This is due to certain factors, for example, high fecundity, unpretentiousness and cheap maintenance in comparison to other laboratory animals. Blood test is one of the main indices evaluating the results of the experiment. However, blood sampling from small laboratory animals is associated with a large number of difficulties. Data on the comparison of the effectiveness of blood sampling in rats using an injection needle and a G-24 butterfly catheter using heparin as an anticoagulant are presented in the article. Reliable results can be obtained using the method of blood sampling in rats by a butterfly catheter and a syringe with a heparin solution. The possibility of repeated blood sampling from laboratory rats under conditions of chronic experiment is important. It has been established that the use of a G-24 butterfly catheter makes it possible to take the largest amount of blood (up to 2 ml) and avoid the destruction of formed elements. The application of this method in practice may actualize multiple blood sampling from rats in a chronic experiment, reduce the laboriousness of the blood sampling process and minimize traumatization of laboratory animals. The use of a 500 U/ml heparin solution for pre-washing the syringe and catheter is advisable to obtain heparinized plasma from laboratory rats without traces of hemolysis in an amount sufficient for further biochemical studies (150-540 pl). The results obtained within the framework of these studies will contribute to the optimization of research work in vivariums and can be used when performing experiments within the framework of dissertations.
