Summary. Results of research of incubation period for acute course of African swine fever, as well as experimental models of 24 isolates of the virus that caused outbreaks in the population of wild boars and domestic pigs farms in the Caucasus and the Russian Federation (2007-2015), are presented in the article. Authors also used data from field observations incubation periods with well-established date of infection and the primary case of hyperthermia during analyzing. It was found that the median incubation period was 3.5-4 days, which corresponds to the minimum value of known range incubation period established by OIE (4-19 days). Diversity and probability of different doses and routes of exposure in vivo of domestic pigs and wild boars for practical use were considered pop-point cumulative value quantile of the incubation period. Right asymmetry of distribution gave the maximum 10-day incubation period (99.7 percentile), which can be used to establish the time of infection in the farm (contact transmission) for the calculation period between diagnostic shooting of wild boars; median – 50 percentile – to identify the most likely time of infection and the establishment of a potential source of virus in private farms, establishing the optimal (not oversized) period of restriction on movement of live pigs and products at various epizootic situations in the ASF-free areas of the country. The left side of the distribution – 5 percentile, i.e. 2-3 days – when performing bioassays for diagnostic studies, validation of laboratory methods, study of the pathogenesis. Thus, formula is the total incubation period for practical use is an average 4.0 days, range in 2-10 days.
