Role of anthropogenic factor in spread of african swine fever in the Russian

Summary. Problem of the elimination of African swine fever in the Russian Federation has been relevant for more than decade. Number of regions that are confronted with this economically significant disease, causing significant damage to pig-breeding activities in Russia, increases annually. The habitat of boars due to the high resistance of the virus in the environment and the ability to retain its virulent properties is becoming an important epidemiological component contributing to the spread of African swine fever virus in the territory of the Russian Federation. In this regard, the anthropogenic factor is of particular importance in the spread of the virus. Authors were to determine the possible correlation between the number of newly identified natural foci and the number of ASF foci among personal subsidiary farms and pig-breeding enterprises. Official reports of the Department of Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance on African swine fever foci on the territory of the Russian Federation from November 2015 to December 2016 were analyzed both among domestic pigs and boars. Statistically significant moderate correlation R = 0.70 (p = 0.005) was established between the number of recorded ASF foci among boars and the number of newly emerging ASF foci among domestic pigs. A statistically significant increase in the number of ASF foci in the summer-autumn period compared with the spring-winter period was found as among boars 6.5 [4.5 * 10.0] and 1.5 [1.0 * 3.0] (p = 0.005), respectively, and among domestic pigs 16.5 [7.0 * 36.0] and 2 [0 * 3.0] (p = 0.006), respectively, which is probably associated with an increase in the number of visits by the boar habitat and the drift of the virus from the wild in the private farms.
