Aerosol generators for veterinary preparation spraying

Summary. Data on the basic technical characteristics of aerosol generators developed and improved in the State Science Institution National Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology of Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and designed to spray vaccine, disinfecting and/or therapeutic preparations are presented in the article. Unlike the currently produced spray generators, the new and improved ones provide obtaining both high capacity finely-dispersed aerosols and coarsely dispersed targeted ones. Improved generator SAG-1 called SAG-1M enables spraying both liquid and powdered products. New set of aerosol generators includes stationary units (namely, SAG-1M, SAG-2M, SAG-3M and SAG-6U) and mobile transportable ones (SAG-10M and SAG-4M). The new generators are characterized by higher spraying productivity and, depending on the parameters required, enable regulation of the sprayed preparation flow rate. The currently used generators are usually manufactured from corrosion-nonresistant materials while the new units are made of corrosion-resistant materials like polypropylene, polyethylene and/or caprolon that can significantly increase their lifetime. The suitability of the designed generators for disinfectant aerosol production is confirmed in experiments on disinfection of test objects contaminated with various pathogens like viruses of African swine fever, classical swine fever and/or anthrax (Bacillus anthracis) with teotropin, glutaraldehyde or chloramine aerosols. Thus, 5% teotropin or chloramine aerosols do inactivate African swine fever virus within 6 hours of exposure while teotropin aerosol spraying provides the same within 24-hour exposure only. Five percent glutaraldehyde solution aerosol was effective against classical swine fever and/or anthrax pathogens, but as compared to volatility method, the offered method for aerosol production using the generators is more economical at equal disinfection efficiency levels. The efficacy of the vaccine aerosols using SAG-type has been extensively confirmed in production conditions for poultry vaccination against Newcastle disease, infectious laryngotracheitis and pox, treatment of livestock respiratory diseases and disinfection of livestock facilities.
