Isolation of Escherichia coli and klebsiella strains producing B-lactamases and their antibiotic resistance

Summary. ESBL-producing enterobacteria (extended-spectrum betalactamases) began to be detected in the 80s of the 20th century, since then they have become pathogens of the most significant infections of various body systems, both animals and humans. ESBL-producing enterobacteria are among the main microbiological hazards emanating from pets, i.e. cats and dogs, which can directly or indirectly cause adverse effects on human health. Among all gram-negative bacteria with this property, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella occupy a special place. The aim of the research was to isolate and identify E. coli and Klebsiella bacteria producing beta-lactamases with determination of their antibiotic resistance. The object of the research was biological material from small domestic animals (cats and dogs) taken from veterinary clinics in Kostanay. A total of 216 samples were examined. 78 microorganisms were isolated and identified from biological material: E. coli (n=60) and Klebsiella (n=18). The spectrum of determining the sensitivity of microorganisms was at least 20 antibiotics of various pharmacological groups. As a result of the conducted studies, all 78 isolates of enterobacteria were polyresistant, i.e. they showed resistance to two or more antibiotics. E. coli and Klebsiella strains showed the greatest resistance to antibacterial drugs of the tetracycline and beta lactam group. Resistance to fluoroquinolones was also detected in most strains of Klebsiella. Beta-lactamase production was detected on average in 95% of E. coli and 94% of Klebsiella.
