Estimation of Elisa diagnosis efficiency at swine trichinellosis

Summary

Sensitive and specific serologic test kit based on solid-phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) named as "Trichinella-Serotest" has been evaluated for the detection of anti-Trichinella antibodies in porcine serum and meat juice samples. ELISA was developed using excretory-secretory antigens (E/S) from in vitro cultivated Trichinella spp. muscle larvae and the aim of this study was to compare ELISA results with taking results of artificial digestion method as gold standard. For this purpose 347 domestic pigs and 5 wild boars from different areas of Krasnodar region were examined for swine trichnellosis by both methods and positive results for 10 domestic pigs and 3 wild boars were obtained and analyzed. Results showed that all Trichinella-free domestic pigs were ELISA negative whereas sera from all Trichinella-infected animals contain specific antibodies which are detectable by ELISA. For wild boars it demonstrates that blood samples can be taken and tested simultaneously with meat juice samples by ELISA for confirmation diagnosis of trichinellosis. In conclusion, ELISA-kit "Trichinella-Serotest" is effective for veterinary laboratories and can be used for monitoring of swine Trichinella infection.
